The Merge Cube

Today we got our hands on the merge cube which brings to life entertainment and education through virtual reality and augmented reality by creating 3D computer-generated images on your phone using your camera’s background as the environment. The merge cube was really easy to set up and its priced at £25.

We explored the 3 apps:

  1. Merge Explorer,
  2. Merge Object Viewer,
  3. Merge Hologlobe.

We have then categorised the apps into the following categories…

- Entertainment and Education -> Merge Explorer

- Education-> Merge Object Viewer and Merge Hologlobe

All these 3 apps are highly effective in focusing their educational aspects towards the younger generation, in particular making it attractive to those in primary education. This is because it teaches key life lessons through an interactive way through the use of different sensory methods to engage a younger audience who can go onto learn dental health and the life cycles of various types of plants and animals.

It also promotes itself to those in secondary and further education post-16 because it we can learn about laboratory equipment and space and Merge Explorer also explores beyond space. This is relevant to this age group, as opposed to those in primary education, it also teaches lessons on anatomy of the ear and the eye. Merge Object Viewer explores the role of energy and the strategies for the creation of renewable energy and also the risk of non renewable energy which is relevant with the modern day challenges of global climatic change.

To conclude, we somewhat recommend this approach to education and entertainment and with the development of technology in the immediate future, VR and AR are becoming increasingly relevant.
